Create your yearly promotion calendars at the beginning of each year. As each month occurs you will know who you want to contact; the arrangements that need to be made; and purchase items on sale.
USE HOLIDAYS TO:
- Promote Your Book, Self, Website, etc...
- As Writing Prompts (magazine publishers are attracted to unique stories and articles that's subjects are related to holidays)
- Provide holiday Related Content on your blog or website (writing prompts, contests, crafts, activities, games, lessons, short stories, articles or illustrations for writers, teachers to use in classrooms, children and parents)
EXAMPLES
Apple Month
Send school teachers a virtual apple. If you write poetry include a cute poem to accompany it.
You can send a post card with an apple graphic to Dr. offices with the information on your book.
My main character, Klutzy Kantor” is crazy about apples. What’s your main character’s favorite food(s), hobby, time of year, etc...?
Offer free pdf downloads of recipes featuring that food.
National Keep Kids Creative Week (9/26-10/2)
Run a creative writing contest. The winning student will win your book and a writing notebook. In the notebook cover (a clear front 3 ring binder can be bought for $2.00-$3.00) place a personalized cover with the student’s name and your character or a less expensive option is to buy a folder with a clear front and insert pages that are blank or further personalized.
September 11, 2010 Make Your Bed Day
Create a pillow case or lap blanket with an iron on picture of your book cover. Schedule a book signing at a department store with a linen department or a linen store. Hold a drawing at your book signing and give it to the lucky winner.
