September 2010

PREPARE YOUR MARKETING IN ADVANCE
book signings, author school visits, contests, etc...

Create your yearly promotion calendars at the beginning of each year. As each month occurs you will know who you want to contact; the arrangements that need to be made; and purchase items on sale.

USE HOLIDAYS TO:

  • Promote Your Book, Self, Website, etc...
  • As Writing Prompts (magazine publishers are attracted to unique stories and articles that's subjects are related to holidays)
  • Provide holiday Related Content on your blog or website (writing prompts, contests, crafts, activities, games, lessons, short stories, articles or illustrations for writers, teachers to use in classrooms, children and parents)

EXAMPLES

Apple Month

Send school teachers a virtual apple. If you write poetry include a cute poem to accompany it.

You can send a post card with an apple graphic to Dr. offices with the information on your book.

My main character, Klutzy Kantor” is crazy about apples. What’s your main character’s favorite food(s), hobby, time of year, etc...?

Offer free pdf downloads of recipes featuring that food.

National Keep Kids Creative Week (9/26-10/2)

Run a creative writing contest. The winning student will win your book and a writing notebook. In the notebook cover (a clear front 3 ring binder can be bought for $2.00-$3.00) place a personalized cover with the student’s name and your character or a less expensive option is to buy a folder with a clear front and insert pages that are blank or further personalized.

September 11, 2010 Make Your Bed Day

Create a pillow case or lap blanket with an iron on picture of your book cover. Schedule a book signing at a department store with a linen department or a linen store. Hold a drawing at your book signing and give it to the lucky winner.

Promotion Vendors for Marketing

If you would like a variety of promotional items to offer as giveaways, here are a fewb to consider.

Promotional items - business cards, postcards, banners, lawn signs, T shirts, magnets, pens, pencils, buttons, hats, key chains, magnets, letterhead, self inking stamps, bookmarks, rack cards, greeting cards, brochures, flyers, posters, etc...

PRINT PRODUCTS
Vista Print is one of the most inexpensive suppliers.
Overnight Prints is primarily for printing services.
CLUBFLYERS.COM are online print specialists.
Print Place makes bookmarks and many other print items.
List of Printers are on this page.
I have only gotten items from Vista Print, but many people have been pleased with the other listed vendors.

PROMOTIONAL BUTTONS
Everyone Loves Buttons magnet or safety pin attachment buttons sold in 100+.
pure buttons safety pin or magnet attachment - buttons sold in quantities of 50+
Bulls Eye Button pin back or magnet back - no minimum purchase

I purchased buttons about 3 yrs ago from Everyone Loves Buttons. I was pleased with their quality and professionalism. The other wo companies are less expensive, but they guarantee they'll meet other competitor's pricing.

To create my own promotional graphics I use Print Master, MS Paint, Click Art and Power Point. A basic knowledge of these programs allows me to create many of my own slogans for cards, blog posts & banners.. You can't sell items with someone else's copyrighted illustrations.
I use them for unique Fonts and to piece together creative looking slogans for promotional gifts.

For other promotional items Google promotional products and compare pricing and product availability.
