Down in the Dumps
Hello Friends!
I know I have been a bit remiss over the past few days. I have been living my life from the bedroom. I have been hurting quite a bit and my body just decided to call "uncle."
My liver is a very sensitive part of my anatomy. The smallest thing can trigger major pain and to be honest, I sometimes don't know what causes the severe pain. I have to admit that it hurts almost all of the time but when it gets to the point where I want to scream;it is just better to be alone and moan in quiet. My father-in-law used to say he was like an old dog when he was sick and just wanted to crawl under the house and be left alone. I can totally understand this metaphore now.
Last weekend was very busy once again. Ron, Squeaky's old Respiratory therapist, visited with his wife, Debbie. They are very Texan and seem to adore one another. I got a chance to interview Ron with Squeaky in the room and got lots of information on all of the special treatments that have been keeping Squeaky from being a constant resident of the hospital. It was very interesting and I think it will be great info for people who are ventilator dependent.
Out of all the physical limitations Squeaky has, I believe that the ventilator is the most restricting. It takes away a lot of her freedoms and privacy. Someone must be near her at all times for safety's sake. If the tubing on her trach comes off it could be deadly. I have seen this happen more than once and it makes me nervous. I can't imagine what it feels like for her.
Time is once again getting short for us. I leave a week from today and though I am happy to be going home to both Husband and dog, I can't help but feel sad to be leaving my friend. I have really enjoyed talking about old times, laughing, crying and just hanging out with her. The interviews with family and friends have been eye-opening and very educational. I have found we have more in common now than we did 25 years ago and I really like the more mature Squeaky.
We will be doing the interview tomorrow focussing on the present and future plans she has. I will be asking about her writing, future appearances and Squeaky's Pals. I can't wait to get home and start doing the editing.
Well, more to do today!
Until next time!
Loves,
K
